Cautious Optimism

Commonwealth Media Services
AFTER A BUSY WEEK IN HARRISBURG, CAPITOL INSIDERS ARE OPTIMISTIC. Maybe too optimistic.
Both state Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (R., Indiana) and House Appropriations Chair Jordan Harris (D., Philadelphia) said that budget talks are ongoing. Pittman even told The Inquirer's Gillian McGoldrick that talks are “a lot further along” at this point than last year. Access Harrisburg has heard the same from others.
Some minor budgetary bills are also on their way to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s desk, funding a handful of smaller state agencies, with vehicle bills big and small moving their way into position. The state House even passed a bill levying taxes on tech companies that sell digital ads by a wide bipartisan margin. (I wrote about that proposal here.)
SO DOES THAT MEAN CAPITOL’S DENIZENS CAN START MAKING WORRY-FREE FOURTH OF JULY PLANS? Let’s not be hasty.
