The Jackpot

Orange and black skill games devices in a Harrisburg-area business

IT’S MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR, when candidates file their final pre-election campaign finance reports and begin reporting daily on the donations they’re bringing in ahead of Election Day. I’m spending my hours cleaning and combing through data so I can learn how much money was blown to control the levers of power — at least until the next election.

Among the notable late-emerging storylines? Skill games supporters are pouring millions into the gubernatorial candidacy of Republican Stacy Garrity.

As my colleague Jaxon White and I reported this week, skill games operators and distributors — the folks who run convenience stores with a few devices or own the businesses that install and maintain them — gave more than 80% of the $4.5 million Garrity’s campaign raised during the most recent reporting period.
