Election Reckoning

Matt Smith / For Spotlight PA

ON PRIMARY DAY, 21 LEGISLATIVE INCUMBENTS FACED CHALLENGES. Most survived; four didn’t.

First, let’s talk about some survivors. Republican state Sens. Lisa Baker, Camera Bartolotta, and Chris Gebhard all defeated bruising challenges from the right.

In their corner was Win for Pennsylvania, a super PAC funded by sports betting and iGaming firms. It spent $6.6 million on their behalf or against their challengers, according to campaign finance reports as of Wednesday morning.

The PAC’s spending was about double what the skill games-funded Citizens Alliance spent against the incumbents, and it may still climb as reports trickle in.

All that spending equaled a lot of ads.
